COMPONENT’S MAIN MENU

1. Quiz Management

1.1 QUIZ CATEGORIES

If you create a lot of quizzes, the easiest way to manage them is creating categories. To do that you need to go to Components -> Joomla Quiz -> Quiz Categories and click the New button in the top right toolbar. In the text fields input the Name and the Description (the latter is optional). The description of the category will be shown as a hint when pointing the mouse on its link. Click the Save or Apply button to save; click Cancel to discard changes.
After you’ve created a category, it will be shown in the List of categories. To edit an already existing category, select the corresponding check-box and press the Edit button in the top right toolbar. To delete a category select the corresponding checkbox and press the Delete button in the top right toolbar. You can also sort the categories in the Display field by setting the number of entries to be shown on the page.

1.2 QUIZZES

Navigate to Quizzes in the left menu of the page. In this section you can create, edit and publish quizzes. The list of quizzes shows the existing quizzes and their basic characteristics. If you click on the quiz’s name link you’ll see a list of questions assigned to it. To create a new quiz press New button and input the following parameters (on completion press the Save or Apply button or Cancel to discard changes):
    Quiz details:
  • Title - Enter the title of the quiz
  • Author - Enter the author of the quiz
  • Category - Select a category out of the existing ones. (If there aren’t any, create them in the Quiz Categories section)
  • Template - Select a template out of the existing ones. (If there aren’t any, upload them in the Templates section)
  • Language - Select the language file. (If there aren’t any, upload them in the Languages section)
  • Certificate - Select a certificate out of the existing ones. (If there aren’t any, upload them in the Certificates section)
  • Time limit - Set the maximum time allowed for taking the quiz (in minutes)
  • Time limit that user do the same quiz - Set the limit of how much time a user should wait to take the quiz one more time
  • Passing score - Set the passing score in %
  • Description - Enter the description of the quiz. Use the embedded visual editor to format the text
Additional options
  • Randomize questions - Select the checkbox if you want the questions to be asked randomly; otherwise leave the field blank
  • Enable quiz review - Select the checkbox if you want to enable the quiz review; otherwise leave this field blank
  • Enable quest access - Select the checkbox if you want to enable the guest access; otherwise leave this field blank
  • Allow a user to email results to - Select To author email if you want the users to send a message to your e-mail in the system; select Let user write email if you want the users to write it themselves. (Note that this option is not applicable for Guest Access)
  • Enable a user to print the result - Select the checkbox if you want a user to be able to print the result; otherwise leave this field blank
  • Enable slide panel (results panel) - Select the checkbox if you want to enable the results panel; otherwise leave this field blank
  • Show results by categories – select the check box if you want a user to see the results by categories; otherwise leave this field blank
Feedback options
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want the question feedback to be active; otherwise leave this field blank
  • When the answer is correct, display – enter the text that will be displayed when a user answers correctly (it implies that the Question feedback option is enabled)
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - enter the text that will be displayed when a user answers incorrectly (it implies that the Question feedback option is enabled)
  • Feedback options – select from the drop-down box either By passed/not passed (if you choose this option, specify the text that should be displayed if a user passes or fails the quiz in the text fields below) or By score received (then specify the scores in % in the appeared fields and assign a feedback note to each of them)
Question Pool Options
  • Select the necessary radio button out of Don’t use, Random questions and By Categories to specify whether you want to use questions from the question pool and define the number of questions in the text field nearby.

Once the quiz has been created it is set 'unpublished' by default and cannot be accessed by users. To publish and unpublish the quiz you can either select a checkbox next to the quiz and press the Publish/ Unpublish buttons or press the icons in the Active column of the list of quizzes.

To edit the quiz’s parameters select a checkbox next to the necessary quiz and press the Edit icon in the top right corner. To delete a quiz (questions will not be deleted from the quiz) select a checkbox next to the necessary quiz and press the Delete icon in the top right corner. The Move button allows to transfer quizzes (or the list of quizzes) to another category. The Copy button allows to copy quizzes (or the list of quizzes) including all the questions.

The Category icon in the top right toolbar will get you back to the section with quiz categories. In addition you may export either the selected quizzes or all of them. To do that check the box next to a necessary quiz and press the Export button or press Export all in the top right toolbar, and then specify a location on your machine where it will be stored.

You can also sort the quizzes in the Display field by setting the number of entries to be shown on the page and choose the quiz’s category in the filter.

1.2.1 Questions Pool

Questions pool can be viewed once you navigate to Quizzes in the left menu. Questions assigned to this category can be found in any quiz. This option can be enabled in the quiz’s settings when creating a new quiz. You may as well choose the number of questions that should be added from the Question Pool.

1.3 IMPORT QUIZZES

To import already created and stored quizzes navigate to Import Quizzes in the left menu of the component and browse a file with the previously exported quiz plus check the box to indicate that you want questions from the pool to be included into this quiz. Press Import to perform the operation; press Cancel to discard changes.

2 Question Management

2.2 QUESTIONS

Navigate to Components > Joomla quiz > Question management. To create a new question select the question type in the New question filter and press the New button and specify the properties of the question. There're 9 types of questions:

  • Multiple Choice
    The multiple choice question is represented as a question itself and a group of radio buttons with the answer options. Only one option is correct. In the displayed question form specify the fields as the following:
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Question options-Feedback option - define possible answer options. Enter each new options into the text fields below and click Add. Repeat the same to add other answer options. Use the Move Up ( ) and Move Down ( ) icons to change the order of answer options in the list.
    Use the Delete icon ( ) to delete answer options. When all answer options are added, select a check box next to the option that represents the correct answer (you can select only one option)
  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – select a category from the drop-down list to assign a question to it
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Ordering - With the help of the drop-down list set the order for the question (the order in which it should appear among other quiz questions)
  • Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.
  • Randomize answers – check the box if you want to randomize the answer options
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want to enable question feedbacks
  • When the answer is correct, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is correct
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is incorrect

You will be able to preview the question by clicking on the Preview button in the top right corner. To save the question press either Save or Apply; to discard changes and return to the previous page click the Cancel button. After the question has been saved you will see it in the list of questions and will be able to change the order of the question (to do that enter the sequence number of the question and press the icon).

  • Multiple Response
    The multiple response question is represented as a question itself and a group of check boxes with the answer options. Several options can be correct at the same time here. In the displayed question form specify the fields as the following:
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Question options-Feedback option - define possible answer options. Enter each new options into the text fields below and click Add. Repeat the same to add other answer options. Use the Move Up ( ) and Move Down ( ) icons to change the order of answer options in the list.
    Use the Delete icon ( ) to delete answer options. When all answer options are added, select a check box next to the option that represents the correct answer (you can select more than one option)
  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – select a category from the drop-down list to assign a question to it
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Ordering - With the help of the drop-down list set the order for the question (the order in which it should appear among other quiz questions)
  • Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.
  • Randomize answers – check the box if you want to randomize the answer options
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want to enable question feedbacks
  • When the answer is correct, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is correct
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is incorrect

You will be able to preview the question by clicking on the Preview button in the top right corner.   • True/False
    These questions are self-explanatory: enter the statement in the question text field and then select either 'True' or 'False' as the correct answer.
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – If necessary, select a category to which the question should belong
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Ordering - With the help of the drop-down list set the order for the question (the order in which it should appear among other quiz questions)
  • Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.
  • Choice - Select a radio button that will denote the correct answer
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want to enable question feedbacks
  • When the answer is correct, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is correct
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is incorrect

You will be able to preview the question by clicking on the Preview button in the top right corner. To save the question press either Save or Apply; to discard changes and return to the previous page click the Cancel button. After the question has been saved you will see it in the list of questions and will be able to change the order of the question (to do that enter the sequence number of the question and press the icon).

  • Matching Drag&Drop
    The matching drag and drop question is represented as a group of questions and a group of answer options. Users should match questions with the correct answers by dragging and dropping answers onto the questions. In the displayed question form specify the fields as the following:
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Question options - In the Question Options section define possible answer options. Enter the first part of the question into the first text field, and the second part (that is the correct answer) into the second text field; click Add. Repeat the same to add other answer options. Use the Move Up ( ) and Move Down ( ) icons to change the order of answer options in the list.
    Use the Delete icon ( ) to delete answer options.
  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – If necessary, select a category to which the question should belong
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Ordering - With the help of the drop-down list set the order for the question (the order in which it should appear among other quiz questions)
  • Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.
  • Randomize answers – check the box if you want to randomize the answer options
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want to enable question feedbacks
  • When the answer is correct, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is correct
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is incorrect
  • Note:Questions and answers are shuffled anew by the system each time when a user does the quiz. So there is no need for you to shuffle questions and answers when you add this type of question.

You will be able to preview the question by clicking on the Preview button in the top right corner. To save the question press either Save or Apply; to discard changes and return to the previous page click the Cancel button. After the question has been saved you will see it in the list of questions and will be able to change the order of the question (to do that enter the sequence number of the question and press the icon).

  • Matching Drop-Down
    The matching drop-down question is represented as a group of questions and a group of drop-down lists with the answer options. Users should select the correct answer option next to the corresponding question. In the displayed question form specify the fields as the following:
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Question options - In the Question Options section define possible answer options. Enter the first part of the question into the first text field, and the second part (that is the correct answer) into the second text field; click Add. Repeat the same to add other answer options. Use the Move Up ( ) and Move Down ( ) icons to change the order of answer options in the list.

  • Fill in the blank
    These questions require users to enter a word, a short phrase, or a string of characters. Users must give an answer that exactly matches one of the answers provided by the author of the quiz.
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Acceptable answers - Define possible variants of answers. Enter each new variant into the text field at the bottom of the page and click Add option. Repeat the same to add other answer options. Use the Move Up ( ) and Move Down ( ) icons to change the order of answer options in the list.
    Use the Delete icon ( ) to delete answer options

  • Tip:For each question there may be several correct answer variants: different in spelling or formulating. Define as many correct answer variants as possible.

  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – If necessary, select a category to which the question should belong
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only

  • HotSpot
    The hotspot question is represented as a question and an image. Users should point their mouse cursor to a certain area (spot) on the image and click it. If users click within the right area, the question is considered to be answered correctly. In the displayed form specify the fields as the following:
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – If necessary, select a category to which the question should belong
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Ordering - With the help of the drop-down list set the order for the question (the order in which it should appear among other quiz questions)
  • Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want to enable question feedbacks
  • When the answer is correct, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is correct
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is incorrect
  • Image - Click the Browse icon ( ) in this field and upload an image from your computer (or else select from the drop-down list an image that was previously uploaded to the server)
  • Note:The image width cannot be larger than the width of the template area.

Click the Apply icon at the top of the form to save changes and stay on the same page. Click the Create (View) HotSpot button at the bottom of the form. The uploaded image will be opened in a new window. Click on the image to start defining the hotspot; click for the second time to stop the selection (the area will be defined with the ant trails). When finished, click Save HotSpot to apply changes; click Close Window to discard changes.

You will be able to preview the question by clicking on the Preview button in the top right corner. To save the question press either Save or Apply; to discard changes and return to the previous page click the Cancel button. After the question has been saved you will see it in the list of questions and will be able to change the order of the question (to do that enter the sequence number of the question and press the icon).

  • Surveys
    The surveys question is represented as a question and an empty text field. Users should enter any answer into the text field (for this type of questions there is no need to define correct answers, as the major aim of this question is to gather certain information from users). Such questions may also be used if the answer cannot be expressed with one or two words, but requires a verbose description.
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question
  • Quiz - Select a quiz to which a question will be assigned
  • Question Category – If necessary, select a category to which the question should belong
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Attempts - Specify how many attempts users will have for answering this question. Enter whole numbers only
  • Ordering - With the help of the drop-down list set the order for the question (the order in which it should appear among other quiz questions).
    Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.
  • Enable Question feedback – check the box if you want to enable question feedbacks
  • When the answer is correct, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is correct
  • When the answer is incorrect, display - Enter the text that will be displayed when the answer is incorrect

To edit a question select a checkbox next to the corresponding entry and press the Edit button; to delete a question select a checkbox next to the corresponding entry and press the Delete button. The Copy button allows you to copy a question (or the list of questions) to the selected quiz. The Move button allows to transfer questions (or the list of questions) to another quiz. The Quizzes button allows you to return to the quizzes’ page. With the help of filters you can sort out the questions by the quiz they are assigned to and types of the questions.

  • Boilerplate
    This question type is used for displaying any kind of text for explaining or giving instructions. The question is not scored; you don’t set points for answering it. It is not necessary to answer it at all.
  • Question text - Enter the text of the question

  • Question Category – If necessary, select a category to which the question should belong
  • Points - Specify how many points users will get for the correct answer to this question. Enter whole numbers only

  • Note:This option will be available only after you save the question.

The Quiz icon in the top right toolbar will get you back to the section with quizzes. You can also sort the questions in the Display field by setting the number of entries to be shown on the page and choose a category, quiz or question type in the filters on top of the page.

3 Profiles Management

3.1 TEMPLATES

This section allows you to install/uninstall additional templates for quizzes. To install a new template click the Install button and then upload a template package. To uninstall a template select a checkbox next to the corresponding entry and press the Uninstall button. You can as well edit CSS by clicking on the corresponding icon in the top right corner of the window.

3.2 MENU MANAGER

On this page you can easily and clearly associate your menu items with the quizzes. (See the F.A.Q page for more details).

3.1 LANGUAGES

In this section the list of all text messages of the component is located. Standard messages’ version ('default') cannot be edited. The default language is set for users who don’t have access to the quiz. Though you can create new messages based on the 'default' version with the help of the New button. To save a language file in XML format to your computer click the Export button. To upload a language XML file to the database click the Import button.

3.1 CERTIFICATES

This page allows you to manage certificates for quizzes. The certificates listed on that page can be later assigned to quizzes. Once you have successfully passed the quiz, you will have the option to print the certificate. The section allows you to create, edit or delete images for the certificate. Note that after you have uploaded a new picture you need to reload the page to refresh the pictures’ list. Also, if you want to upload a lot of pictures user FTP and upload them to 'images/joomlaquiz/images'.

3.1 REPORTS

In this section all the results from the quizzes are presented. Each line of the table contains the information about each attempt to take the quiz and the result a user scored. You can search and filter the results to be shown and then export the selection to Excel using the CSV button or Delete the results.
To view the details of the results (also for each question answered) you can click the View button in the top right corner of the window.

What to do in case you meet problems. Before making a request to support please try to do the following:
  • If you want to create or install new language make sure that the following folder 'components/com_joomlaquiz/language/' is writable (attribute is '0777')
  • If you want to create or install new template make sure that the following folder 'components/com_joomlaquiz/templates/' is writable (attribute is '0777')
  • Make sure that the following folder 'images/joomlaquiz/images/' is writable (attribute is '0777')
  • Download and install latest component updates from www.elearningforce.biz
